Seen here is Grameen founder Muhammad Yunus with borrowers in rural Bangladesh. Microcredit became an inclusive financial system for the most disadvantaged groups in the rural economy. Yunus was awarded Bangladesh’s highest civilian honor, the Shadhinota Padak (Independence Award), in 1987.
